Thousands of people know Valentine’s day as a day of love,
that one day when every couple that’s madly in love show their affection by
buying flowers, teddy bears, and chocolates. But did you know that on February
14, 1929 there was a massacre between the two most known gangsters Al Capone
and George Moran.
Al
Capone otherwise known as “Scarface” was one of top most known gangster around
the world. Born into immigrant family in Brooklyn, New York in 1899, Al Capone
quit school after the sixth grade and associated with a notorious street gang. At
the age of 18 Al Capone became head of the street gang in Chicago when Torrio
step down after being shot. He became locally known in the 1920’s while 18th
Amendment prohibiting the sale of consumption, Al Capone bootlegged and got
busted. In 1929 dominated the sale of illegal liquor in Chicago. His longtime
rival “Bugs” Moran tried to assassinate both Torrio and Capone. So on February
14, 1929 two men posing as policemen and assassinated seven of Moran’s men in a
North Side garage. Al Capone was never charged for the murders because his alibi
checked out that he was staying at a hotel in Miami. Therefore, he became the
most dangerous gambler known worldwide.
